This session focuses on ways school teams can work with vision, intention, and practical strategies to ensure students attend school every day possible and experience meaningful, positive engagement throughout their school experience. Educators will reflect on ways that they can connect with students and families to overcome barriers to attendance and implement strategies to understand and address common address causes of absenteeism. Participants will identify ways to strengthen their systems of school connectedness, creating a positive classroom and school climates, and by being consciously invitational and enhancing two-way communication with families.

Improving Attendance: Strategies for Prevention and Intervention With Jessica Sprick

GRADES K–12

Session Outline:

Participants will learn how to:

  • Effectively monitor and analyze attendance data.
  • Prioritize resources.
  • Implement schoolwide procedures to improve the attendance of all students.
  • Use function-based approaches to design effective intervention plans for individuals, whether in virtual, hybrid, or traditional brick-and-mortar settings.
  • Implement a number of interventions that address the most common functions of student absenteeism.

How to Attend

  • Live In-depth sessions will be conducted via Zoom. Each registrant will receive two confirmation emails from Zoom: one for your selected In-depth session and another for the Keynote and daily Panel Discussions. Please save these confirmation emails—they will include the links you will need to join the Zoom sessions. Two links for all the week’s sessions—the In-depth Session link for all In-depth Sessions (Tu–Fri) and the Keynote/Panel Discussion link for the Keynote and each Panel Discussion (Tu–Fri). TIP: Use the “Add to Calendar” link in the confirmation emails to set an automatic reminder.
  • Plan to attend each live session. Recordings of In-depth sessions will be available only until the start of the next day’s meeting.
  • In-depth sessions will include homework assignments to be competed before the next meeting, so be sure to set aside additional time each day for that.
  • Registrants should sign up for only one In-depth session.

Session Materials

  • A copy of the book for the selected In-depth session will be sent directly to each registrant. We recommend you provide your home address to ensure that you receive the materials. If you are registering multiple attendees, please include the email address and shipping address for each individual registrant during checkout. 
  • Session book will ship to arrive on or before July 3, 2020. If your book does not arrive by this time, please contact us.
