Drawing on the works of Bill Jenson and Randy Sprick, this session will focus on effective techniques, strategies, and interventions to positively motivate kids who may be reluctant learners in today’s classroom.

Course Outline:

Participants will learn how to:

      • Assess Tough Kids—those students who combine behavior excesses such as noncompliance and aggression with deficits in academic, self-management, and social skills
      • Implement both positive and corrective strategies for classrooms, groups, and individual students
      • Improve academic engagement and performance
      • Select and teach classroom rules
      • Use a functional behavior assessment to uncover the function of a misbehavior
      • Develop a plan for returning Tough Kids in special placements to the general education classroom
